Jason: Home-Built Scanning Tunneling Microscope System
Jason is our small home-built STM system, made for low-current measurements of organic surfaces under ambient conditions or under aqueous / organic solvents. It is currently driven by our analog electron controller, but we intend to replace this with our in-house DSP-based system in the near future.
Characteristics
- 20 pA noise floor
- Analog and DSP control systems
- Inchworm coarse approach mechanism
- Four-sector + centre electrode scan tube configuration
- Vertical resolution ~0.07 Å
- Lateral resolution ~1-2 Å
- System is mounted on optical table that is suspended via rubber vibration isolation mounts from steel frame
